A closed door environment provides delegates with an opportunity to have a one to one with an industry expert who is at the forefront of the Green Skills agenda.
Green Skills for Green Jobs - Powering the UK into the 21st Century, will feature two seminars hosted just before a light lunch is served.
These seminars are an educational environment, providing delegates with the opportunity to have an interactive discussion about key areas relating to the agenda. Each delegate must reserve a space in their preferred seminar due to limited availability. Delegates will be sent joining instructions detailing how to reserve spaces before the event.
Seminar A: Skills for the Future’ - A Live Case Study by New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership
Sponsored By : New Anglia LEP
Speaker : Dr Aled Jones - Director of the Global Sustainability Institute (GSI) at Anglia Ruskin University
Something exciting is happening. A new economy is emerging globally. Albeit slow, the direction of travel is clear and the New Anglia region is in a position to be a world leader. This requires ambition and drive and the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is well placed to support its region to achieve this goal.
This transition will inevitably lead to a transformation in skills requirement. Importantly skills are not purely sector specific technical knowledge. Action and behavioural skills also make us better able to grow and be globally competitive through resilience and innovation.
Changing the skills base of a population is not a quick process, most children now in primary school will not enter the workplace for another 15 to 20 years. This will require long term and sustained leadership to achieve change on the scale needed to make skills an enabler for growth in our area.
Access to a skilled workforce is a critical enabler for any region in achieving its future growth potential. Skills and employment are also key factors in securing the health, wellbeing and prosperity of a region’s resident population.
Skills development is moving from teacher transmitted knowledge and individual learning to knowledge through enquiry and team learning (Aldersgate Group 2012: Skills for a new economy). With the support of New Anglia LEP our region’s employers (private, public and third sector) need to play a vital role in helping the development of these skills across New Anglia.
Come and find out how New Anglia LEP, by building on the excellent work in the region already underway can, and will, deliver on its mission.
Seminar B : Green Deal (one year on) – Inspiration, Innovation and Participation
Sponsored By : Group Horizon
Speaker : Lee Daymond & Ken Brown - Project Managers
Since attending the Green Skills for Green Jobs conference in 2012 Group Horizon have been developing their services and tackling the challenges presented by the Green Deal since its roll out in various innovative ways. The workshop will review and reflect upon the demanding marketplace Green Deal has faced since its launch and the potential for its development whilst considering issues such as compliance, technical and social barriers along the way.
Working nationally on a range of key schemes including a strategic partnership with British Gas in the roll out of the Local Authority led, Warm Up North, Group Horizon has been implementing innovative approaches to some of most problematic areas of the Green Deal. The companies’ approach to tackling these includes; (i) Engaging and supporting individuals with up-skilling and moving into employment related to External Wall Insulation systems (ii) Supporting SMEs to access the supply chain, building their workforces and skills through a social enterprise model and (iii) delivering Green Deal commercial services and building practical knowledge.
The workshop will expand on Group Horizon’s method in delivering these models and share some of the challenges and solutions faced along the way. It includes case studies of individuals supported from unemployment and now into the Solid Wall Industry, working on a range ECO programmes and an update on how Warm Up North is progressing.
